3D Game Concept V2
Version 2 of our first 3d game has been an improvement over the first in a multitude of ways, to start with the obvious, textures. Adding some basic textures to a game brings about a whole new light to it.
The main thing I wanted to develop in this version was puzzles and multiple paths and in this I succeeded with there now being 2 main pathways and 1 cheese method. The main pathway is the players will find the switch in the forest to trigger the moveing platforms to them climb the tree to find a switch, upon hitting the switch the players can see the large door blocking off the castle stairs slowly open allowing them to progress further. This is where we see 3 different approaches open up, either the player had done the puzzle and opened the door, or they spotted the platforms under the ravine and jumped through the jumping section underneath, this will also lead the player to the switch to open the ending door as well so it is certainly the best path for speed runs, it is also the most hidden path so it is unlikely players will see it on the first run, as proven through testing no player saw the path on the first run. The third route that involves a decent amount of knowledge of physics breaking allows the player to rapid jump hop up a tree that is fallen on the castle. On the main route the player has to fight through a large amount of enemies while breaking through objects that block the path forward. After swinging around the area u see a large door that is closed, looking around the players will see a platforming section leading to a button, hitting it opens the door to the main entrance along with a hidden health pack if players search for it. In the main building the players are met with a long narrow pathway at the end reaching a button. Hitting the button triggers the trap resulting in having nearly 15 chompers drop down on the path attacking the player as they try to escape.
Overall I'm much happier with how this game turned out compared to the last, pathways more interesting challenges and proper textures make for a much more complete game. In playtesting I got good feedback on improvements and what to advance on. The tree section is something one of the players enjoyed and wished there was more of, in terms of jumping around tree to tree.
